Sail Past Lampedusa
05:29
|
|||
I’ve never seen the sea before
My home was in an ocean of sand
I’ve left it behind now,
There’s nothing left there anyhow
My mother said to me
Head for the northern coast
And find
A boat to take you away from here
I’ve been sailing since I was six
The sea is my second home
Now I’m sixteen
I’m setting out alone
My father said to me
Stick close to the coast
Or the current
Might take me away from here
I've never seen so many people before
As are camped along the coast
But I won't be here long
I gave all the money
My mother made
To some men
Who said they had a boat
To take me away from here
I saw the boats on the news again
If you can even call them that
Overflowing with people
Hoping for help and home
My father bought
This beautiful boat
Just for me
That could take me anywhere
So why can't we
Sail past Lampedusa?
Where are we
Supposed to go?
How can it
Be a crime
To try to save
Lives?
I'd never seen the sea before
My home was in an ocean of sand
I've left it behind me
There's nothing left there for me
The men said to me
Your in charge now
So go
Take them away from here.
So why can't we
Sail past Lampedusa?
Where are we
Supposed to go?
How can it
Be a crime
To try to save
Lives?

Simple Truth
05:28
|

We took your keys and let ourselves in
We just opened the door
I don’t feel like the good side
This doesn’t feel like the right thing to do
I tried not to think what I was doing
Packing your pictures and paintings
And a collection of sea shells
Into bags and into the van
We leave people to sleep on the streets
To try get them to leave
Well I don’t think we’re the good side
I don’t think that’s the right thing to do
We treat people with fear and doubt
We think they’re here for our hand outs
So we leave with them with nothing and leave them to starve
I don’t know how we’re supposed to absolve our conscience
I don’t know how anyone can accept what we have done
But I know that we can make things better
Yeah I know that we can try to make things right
Treat people with respect
In fact treat them like humans
Let’s treat humans like humans
Let’s try be the good side
Let’s try do all that we can
Don’t believe what you see in the headlines
Don’t believe what you hear from the politicians
Seek the simple truth and follow it through
I don’t know how we’re supposed to absolve our conscience
I don’t know how anyone can accept what we have done
But I know that we can make things better
Yeah I know that we can try to make things right

Oh come you men, you rugged soldiers
Oh come you men with roughened hands
Come and cross this raging river
Come and cross where it runs wide
As we walked my men and me
We walked towards our enemy
As we walked my men and I
A chilling site did meet our eyes
The river runs fast and deep
The river runs red with blood
At part it runs slow and wide
A women stands afore astride
I stand abreast this ambling river
I stand just fore where it runs wide
I wash the flesh from bones of soldiers
I wash the bones till they are white
Approach the women I did slow
The truth of this we had to know
Approach the women I did dare
Alone to meet her deathly stare
The women stood on the river bed
The women stood on bodies dead
The women held out a head
Smiled at me and then she said
You recognise this head dear soldier
You recognise this head as yours
These bones I wash are yours dear soldiers
The red that runs is your life blood.
I ran from her to my lads
Told them of the fate we had
We ran from there across the land
Terror shook our roughened hands
But fight we must to save our land
And fight we must to save our kin
To battle we went with our fate seen
To her we went to get our bones cleaned
All soldiers know their fate and
March on anyway
Everyone learns their fate but
Fights till the end of days
So wander on you rugged soldiers
Wander on to battle brave
Wander on you troubled children
And know I’ll wash your bones till white

It might be sunny today but there’s a storm cloud in my head
A cloud not created by any turbulence on this Earth.
It gathers and rages in between my eyes and my brain
Filling my whole world view with a dulling fog
It might be sunny today but I don’t think I can go outside
The weight in my head is too heavy today,
All my strength to lift it from my pillow
Where it holds me but does not let me rest
It might be sunny today but I don’t want to go outside
There’s a whole world waiting for me, expectantly
And I don’t think I can pretend anymore
That I don’t know or that I don’t care
Don’t know that I should be doing something more
Don’t care that I can see the confusion on your face
Don’t know that you don’t understand
Don’t care that I’m falling apart again
I’m shut in, can’t see the brightness
Worn out by my brains endless overdrive
Locked in a cycle of frustrations
Knocked down and scrambling to get up

Boris isn't bothered if you call him a fop
Or make fun of the way that his hair does flop
In case you didn't realise he still got to the top
Whatever we say, he’s not going to stop
Boris isn't bothered at all by your wit
We should just let him take over for a bit
Plus he can see how well the crown might fit
Say what you want Boris doesn't give a shit
Boris isn’t bothered if you call him a toff
Private education doesn't leave you soft
All his backstabbing has finally paid off
So if asked to reconsider, he’ll do nothing but scoff
Boris isn't bothered about the poor or the sick
If there's no money to be made then cut to the quick
The NHS just isn’t doing the trick
And privatisation is simply terrific
Boris isn't bothered about democracy
He knows best and we're all just crazy
Eton and Oxford taught him everything y’see
So sit down and let him serve the bourgeoisie
Boris won't be bothered by this song that I sing
He knows my words won't do a thing
Once the governments shut down he'll practically be king
Then we'll need to find something better than milkshakes to fling
